Mass demonstrations in Madrid and Barcelona call for ending diplomatic ties with Israel and stopping genocide in Palestine.

Hundreds of thousands of Spaniards took to the streets across major cities including Madrid and Barcelona to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The demonstrations were organized by trade unions, civil society groups, and left-wing political parties, expressing nationwide solidarity with Palestine.

Protesters denounced Israel’s apartheid and genocidal policies, chanting “Free Palestine” and “Boycott Israel.” Support poured in from all sectors—education, healthcare, and labor unions.


Over 400,000 March in Madrid

In Madrid, more than 400,000 demonstrators marched from Atocha Station to Callao Square, waving Palestinian flags in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Banners read “End the genocide in Palestine” and “Resist colonialism, apartheid, and occupation.”

Civil society leaders urged Spain and other European nations:

“End arms trade and diplomatic relations with Israel immediately. Stop the colonization of Palestinian territories. Respect international law.”

The crowd chanted, “Murderer Netanyahu,” “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “Free Palestine.”
Retired Spaniard Carmen told Anadolu Agency, “This is the greatest injustice in the world. The killers pretend to be innocent, but everyone knows the truth. Gaza is the symbol of cruelty in our time.


Mass Protests in Barcelona

In Barcelona, where the Global Sumud Flotilla first set sail on August 30, around 300,000 people (according to organizers) and 70,000 (according to police) joined the demonstrations against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Waving Palestinian flags, Catalan protesters chanted “Boycott Israel” and “Free Palestine.
Left-wing political parties supported the rally, calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza.


Civil Society Manifesto: Cut All Ties with Israel

Over 600 Catalan NGOs signed a manifesto demanding:

  • The end of genocide in Palestine,

  • A comprehensive arms embargo on Israel,

  • The severance of all diplomatic relations with Israel,

  • The termination of the EU–Israel Association Agreement.


Nationwide Support Across Spain

Thousands more joined marches throughout Seville, Málaga, Bilbao, Pamplona, Vigo, and Logroño, chanting in solidarity with Palestine.
Unions in Catalonia and the Basque Country reaffirmed plans for a general strike against Israel on October 15.
