President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at the mass inauguration ceremony in Sultanbeyli, stated that the hopeful passengers of the Global Sumud Flotilla were being brought to Turkey and highlighted the ongoing efforts to stop the genocide in Gaza.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at the Mass Opening and Groundbreaking Ceremony in Sultanbeyli, said that he sincerely greeted the participants and every citizen from all 39 districts of Istanbul.

Stating that they were in one of the most beautiful districts of Istanbul, the legacy of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, President Erdoğan thanked every citizen for their affection and enthusiasm.

President Erdoğan said that he wanted to touch upon an issue closely followed by the entire Islamic world and humanity, and continued as follows:

“We have been making intense efforts to stop the genocide that has been going on in Gaza for two years. From humanitarian aid to diplomatic contacts, we have mobilized all our means in every field. Our goal is to bring our brothers and sisters in Gaza to peace, tranquility, and security as soon as possible.
Last week, we held meetings in both New York and Washington in this regard. We drew attention to the humanitarian disaster. We became the voice of the oppressed. At the United Nations, we brought the sufferings of Gazan children to the world’s attention through photographs. We also discussed this issue in detail with U.S. President Mr. Trump and evaluated the steps that should be taken for peace.”

“A window of opportunity for lasting peace has opened in our region”

President Erdoğan stated that he then sent the head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) to Qatar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and said:

“The most important topic of my phone conversation with Mr. Trump last night was once again Gaza — bringing peace and stability to Gaza.
We welcome with satisfaction Hamas’s response to Mr. Trump’s peace plan.
Hamas has once again shown, as it has done many times before, that it is ready for peace.
Thus, a window of opportunity for lasting peace in our region has opened.
It is very important that Israel immediately halts its attacks in this regard.”

President Erdoğan emphasized that the newly sprouting hopes for peace must not be allowed to fade away and underlined that if all parties act with a sense of responsibility, it is possible to stop the bloodshed and establish peace.

“We are also bringing the hopeful passengers of the Global Sumud Flotilla to our country”

President Erdoğan continued:

“We will continue, as Turkey, to do whatever is necessary to ensure that not even one more innocent person dies and that the faces of Gazan children smile again.

We are also bringing the hopeful passengers of the Global Sumud Flotilla to our country.
I believe that in about an hour, not only those from Turkey but also some of the Sumud Flotilla passengers from Malaysia and other countries will be among the arriving delegation at Istanbul Airport.
They will land in Istanbul in about an hour.

May God grant us, our nation, and all conscientious people who support the Palestinian cause the blessing of seeing Gaza restored to peace.
From here, we send our messages of solidarity to the oppressed people of Gaza and reiterate once again that Turkey will always stand by them.”

President Erdoğan said that he has always had a special bond with Sultanbeyli.

He noted that Sultanbeyli, in the March 31, 2024 elections, once again chose the politics of service and achievement, and expressed his gratitude to the district residents for their support in those elections.

President Erdoğan said that, as in all of Turkey, the people of Sultanbeyli had safeguarded their labor, every penny, and the rights of orphans, and continued:

“We have used, and continue to use, your resources for you.
Today, we are here in Sultanbeyli to inaugurate these collective projects.
The size of the crowd before me shows how much all my brothers and sisters here value this mass opening and groundbreaking ceremony.
We are both reuniting with you and holding the official openings of 41 projects and the groundbreaking ceremonies of 9 new projects.”

Expressing that, as an Istanbulite, he was greatly pleased to be among the people of Sultanbeyli with works, services, projects, and investments, President Erdoğan said:

“From urban transformation projects to youth and sports centers, from zero waste projects to environmental and green space arrangements, from vocational training and science centers to prestige avenues, we wish that our projects, totaling 8 billion 425 million liras in value, bring prosperity to our district and to Istanbul.

I congratulate our Sultanbeyli Municipality, which has implemented 50 projects in just 1.5 years, and my brother Ali Tombaş and his team before you.
I also extend my sincere thanks to all our brothers and sisters — from workers to engineers, from architects to project staff — who contributed to these investments.”

“The 5.0 magnitude tremor reminded us that we must act quickly in Marmara as well”

President Erdoğan underlined that Sultanbeyli stands out with its people, nature, and young population, and continued:

“We are striving to further strengthen these qualities of our district.

By inaugurating Fetih Grove, covering 140,000 square meters, and Aydos Grove, covering 110,000 square meters, we have added new oxygen reserves to Istanbul.

With our city square improvement project, we rehabilitated the streets and avenues around the square and strengthened the infrastructure.

As you know, earthquakes are one of the most painful realities of our country.
During the disaster of the century we experienced on February 6, we all saw how important earthquake-resistant buildings are.

The 5.0 magnitude tremor that occurred last Thursday reminded us that we must also act swiftly in the Marmara region.”
